Hill Skills, Snowdonia

Hills Skills
The Snowdonia National Park has some of the most beautiful and accessible mountains in the world, but for many people the thought of trekking through the high peaks seems too challenging or dangerous. We believe that hill walking is an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, and that with high quality guidance and instruction, everyone can enjoy the restorative powers of the mountains.

Discover Hillwalking
If you are new to walking and want to be guided through some of Snowdonia’s famously stunning scenery, whilst picking up some essential skills on the way, then our guided weekend walking course is for you. Skills covered will include basic map reading, clothing and equipment selection, weather and emergency procedures. Our instructors are also full of knowledge on the local flora and fauna, and can orientate you to how the region’s history has influenced the landscape.

Exploring Map & Compass
Perhaps you’ve been hill walking for a while but would like to feel more confident in your navigation, especially in mist or low cloud. On this course, our instructors will show you how to navigate off the beaten path, increasing your route options and ability to stay located. This course is designed to explain the basic principles without confusing jargon, whilst taking in some scenery at the same time!

Hill Skills
This is a great opportunity and my most popular hill course. Come and walk some of the dramatic higher peaks of Snowdonia, as well as some of the more demanding walks in the area, including the Nantlle Ridge, the Glyderau, Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa – highest peak in Wales and England), and the Carneddau. Along the way you will learn about map and compass skills, reading the weather, emergency procedures, and planning and preparing for your treks.

Further Navigation Skills
Anyone who has tried to navigate their way in bad weather or at night and struggled, will appreciate the value of honing micro navigation skills, under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor.  On this course we will unlock the mysteries of this art, and you will find that anyone can learn to navigate - its not as difficult as it seems with the right guidance.

Course costs
Our costs are calculated on a daily rate dependent on how many people are participating on the course.
1 person £180
2 people £95 each
3-4 people £75 each
5 or more £50 each

Course fees include the instructor and any technical equipment needed for the duration of your course.

Ratios for Courses
We aim to get a low ratio between instructors and client to optimise the learning experience and to give a safer working ratio on courses. We will discuss your needs at point of enquiry to ensure we can meet your needs.
